China Petroleum Engineering Corporation, the engineering arm of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), has won its third major gas contract in the Middle East this year, valued at USD 1.6 billion.
The contract, awarded to CPEC’s subsidiary China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC), covers the engineering, procurement, supply, construction, and commissioning of a natural gas processing unit. This unit will have a daily capacity of 320 million standard cubic feet and will serve a gas project in the Ratawi Oil Field, Iraq, owned by TotalEnergies. The project is expected to take 39 months to complete.
CPECC brings extensive experience in surface engineering construction for oil and gas fields and has previously executed projects in Iraq, helping CPEC strengthen its footprint in the region.
This contract supports CPEC’s strategic expansion of its onshore oil and gas field surface engineering business in Iraq and the broader Middle East market. The company anticipates that the deal will positively influence its operating revenues and profits over the next four to five years.
Earlier this year, in January, another CPEC subsidiary, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering, secured a USD 532 million contract to build a liquefied natural gas pipeline for Adnoc Gas in the United Arab Emirates, marking CPEC’s second engineering project win in the Middle East in 2025.
