Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Salim Nasser al Aufi, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to producing oil and gas as long as the global demand for these resources remains. However, he emphasized that the nation will prioritize cleaner, more sustainable methods in their production.
Speaking at the Advantage Oman Forum on Sunday, Al Aufi explained that Oman plans to balance its energy transition goals with the continued production of oil and gas. “We are not stopping or slowing down hydrocarbon production, but we will do so in a much cleaner way,” he said.
Al Aufi highlighted the country’s target of eliminating routine flaring by 2030, alongside efforts to reduce methane emissions. He also discussed how Oman is integrating renewable energy into its oil and gas industry. Companies in the sector are being encouraged to use renewable energy to power their operations, moving away from traditional electricity sources. Solar thermal energy is also being used to assist in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in some regions of the country.
