Coast Guard Responds to Oil and Gas Mixture Release Near Garden Island Bay

The U.S. Coast Guard, Spectrum OpCo, LLC, and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office are actively responding to an oil and gas mixture release near Garden Island Bay. The spill occurred near a production facility’s well on Saturday, with an overflight confirming the presence of crude oil in the marsh environment.

A Unified Command has been established, consisting of the Coast Guard, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, Forefront Emergency Management, and other agencies to manage the response efforts. The operator’s oil spill response plan has been activated.

As of now, no injuries or wildlife impacts have been reported. Efforts are ongoing to address the situation and mitigate environmental damage.
