Angola’s National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and international energy firm Azule Energy have announced the first oil production from the Agogo FPSO, a key component of the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development located in Block 15/06.
Operated by Azule Energy in partnership with Angola’s national oil company Sonangol E&P and China’s Sinopec International, the Agogo FPSO complements the existing Ngoma FPSO to develop resources from the Agogo and Ndungu fields. Together, these assets hold combined reserves estimated at approximately 450 million barrels, with peak production projected to reach 175,000 barrels per day.
Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of ANPG’s Board of Directors, highlighted the significance of this achievement: “This new milestone in the Agogo project confirms that our investment in technological innovation and the valorization of Angola’s natural resources is the right path. It underscores the importance of integrating sustainability, efficiency, and inclusive practices in the energy sector.”
The Agogo FPSO is Angola’s first offshore facility featuring full electrification, a pilot carbon capture unit, and combined cycle power generation—making it a pioneering operation with fully offset operational emissions. Developed in an impressive 29 months, the project demonstrates Angola’s growing capability to execute deepwater oil and gas developments efficiently.
Adriano Mongini, CEO of Azule Energy, emphasized the company’s pride in the project: “The startup of the Agogo Integrated West Hub, approved shortly after Azule Energy’s formation, marks a defining moment for us. It reflects our technical expertise and commitment to supporting Angola’s energy sector while advancing responsible energy production through innovative emission reduction efforts.”
This milestone not only boosts Angola’s oil production capacity but also sets a new standard for sustainable offshore operations in the region.
