Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a critical meeting on Sunday with representatives of foreign oil companies operating in Iraq to discuss strategies to maintain and boost oil and gas production rates. The meeting, which aimed to address key issues in the country’s oil sector, was attended by Iraq’s Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, as well as officials from the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the General Commission for Taxes, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
The meeting focused on several critical topics, including measures to stop gas flaring, the development of Iraq’s oil industry, the handling of work permits, and social security matters for employees in the sector. Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized the need to remove barriers to the implementation of projects, reiterating that the government views its relationship with foreign oil companies as strategic.
In his remarks, Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of innovative technologies, improving the performance of oil and gas facilities, and halting gas flaring. He also stressed the government’s commitment to enhancing production rates and the operational effectiveness of oil reservoirs.
A key focus of the meeting was the optimization of associated gas, which is crucial for electricity production and supporting critical industries like steel, fertilizer, and petrochemicals in Iraq. Furthermore, Al-Sudani ordered a reevaluation of the licensing rounds from 15 years ago, to ensure they reflect the latest advancements in the oil and gas industry.
