In a meeting held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, assured executives of Renaissance Africa Energy Company of the state’s continued support for the oil and gas industry, emphasizing the importance of strong, mutually beneficial partnerships between oil companies and their host communities.
Renaissance Africa Energy Holdings, a consortium of four successful Nigerian independent oil and gas companies, has recently completed the acquisition of an equity holding in Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC). This acquisition highlights the growing role of local players in Nigeria’s oil sector and the increasing significance of partnerships within the industry.
Governor Oborevwori recognized the vital role of crude oil in Nigeria’s economy, stressing the importance of sustainable partnerships that provide value to all stakeholders. He encouraged oil companies operating in the state to strengthen their relationships with host communities to foster trust and ensure smooth operations.
Reflecting on his own experience working with Shell during his tenure as Osubi Community Chairman, Oborevwori shared his belief in the power of dialogue over confrontation, offering the support of the state government to help Renaissance Africa Energy Company thrive. “I believe you will do well with your experience and leadership in this company,” he said.
Oborevwori also reassured the executives that Delta State remains one of the safest and most peaceful states in the South-South region, with no recorded attacks on oil facilities since his administration took office. He highlighted Delta’s status as the highest oil-producing state in the country, expressing confidence that the state will continue to maintain its leading position in oil production.
Dr. Layi Fatoma, Chairman of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to introduce the company’s management and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to contributing positively to the state’s economy.
The governor concluded by emphasizing the importance of strong partnerships in driving success, both for the oil companies and the state, with a shared goal of mutual growth and prosperity.
