China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) on Tuesday unveiled HiSimPro, the country’s first domestically developed dynamic simulation engine software for oil and gas field operations, marking a major milestone in China’s advancement of core industrial technologies.
Developed with fully independent intellectual property rights, HiSimPro integrates simulation capabilities across underground reservoirs, wellbores, and pipeline networks. CNPC described the software as a “digital brain and X-ray vision” for oil and gas fields, offering full-lifecycle, full-stack modeling and optimization — from early-stage development planning to operational management and end-of-life evaluation.
The software spans three critical domains: reservoir engineering, production engineering, and gathering and transportation engineering. It enables engineers to simulate and optimize operations at every stage of oil and gas field development, including initial planning, mid-term adjustments, production enhancement, and late-stage analysis.
HiSimPro also provides advanced monitoring capabilities. It can help identify oil-rich zones, determine optimal water injection points to boost recovery rates, and monitor the flow of oil, gas, and water in pipelines. This allows it to detect and help prevent common operational challenges such as gas or water channeling.
According to CNPC, the software has already been deployed across more than 300 oil and gas field blocks in China, signaling its readiness for widespread application and its potential to reduce reliance on foreign technologies in the energy sector.
