In Belle Rose, Louisiana, 65-year-old Spencer Joseph was arrested after deputies discovered he had deliberately poured gasoline at the entrance of a home on Frank Road and set it on fire. The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office charged Joseph with aggravated arson of an inhabited dwelling following an investigation that confirmed the fire was intentionally started. Officials reported that Joseph had been involved in a prior dispute before the incident. Although he initially fled the scene, he later returned and was taken into custody. He remains jailed pending a bond hearing.
Meanwhile, in Appleton, Wisconsin, 49-year-old Steven William Paltzer was apprehended after attempting to burn a Pride flag displayed outside the Outagamie County Courthouse. Deputies from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Unit witnessed Paltzer removing the flag from its pole on South Walnut Street. He then placed it on the ground and began pouring gasoline over it but was stopped before he could ignite the flames.
This attack targeted a symbol of inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month. Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson condemned the act as hateful and destructive, emphasizing the county’s commitment to respect, inclusion, and belonging. A replacement Pride flag was raised promptly after the incident. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
