In Jackson, Mississippi, motorists are raising alarms after a series of incidents involving contaminated gasoline sold at a Marathon gas station located off Highway 49. Numerous customers have reported significant vehicle problems, including stalling and engine failures shortly after refueling their cars. One of the earliest affected drivers, Robin Mallett, described her vehicle breaking down within minutes of filling up nearly four months ago.
More recently, Dakota Murphy recounted his troubling experience after purchasing $20 worth of fuel at the same station. Murphy’s vehicle began losing power and eventually stalled less than two miles from the gas station. Upon inspection, repairs revealed water and debris inside his gas tank. Expressing deep frustration, Murphy criticized both the station and fuel supplier for selling contaminated gasoline and failing to provide adequate support.
The Marathon station is operated by 49GS LLC, which obtains its gasoline from FuelX. Following initial complaints, FuelX acknowledged the contamination issue and sent a crew to address it. Despite these efforts, many customers continue to face challenges obtaining refunds or assistance. Murphy claims that FuelX has ceased communication with him, leaving him responsible for costly repairs.
Attorney Teri Hays represents some of the affected drivers and reported that the gas station denies selling contaminated fuel and has largely dismissed customer complaints. In response to ongoing concerns, the Marathon pumps were temporarily shut down as crews worked to resolve the contamination problem. Attempts to secure comments from FuelX have so far been unsuccessful.
This developing situation highlights serious concerns about gasoline quality control at local stations and serves as a warning for consumers. Experts advise drivers to closely monitor their vehicles after refueling and report any unusual behavior immediately. Authorities have yet to launch formal investigations or recalls related to this matter.
With more drivers reporting similar issues, pressure is mounting on both the gas station owner and fuel supplier to take accountability. As customers await clear answers and effective solutions, the risk of further vehicle damage due to contaminated gasoline remains an urgent concern.
