Quantica Infrastructure, LLC, the developer spearheading this initiative, has proposed constructing the data center on a sprawling 5,000-acre site south of Broadview. According to public documents from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the company is exploring a diverse mix of energy options including solar, wind, natural gas, gas-fired turbines, and geothermal energy.
John Chesser, CEO of Quantica Infrastructure, emphasized that while natural gas is under consideration, no final decision has been made regarding the location of any natural gas plant. He urged local residents not to jump to conclusions about a gas plant being built nearby without official confirmation. Chesser explained that for a project of this magnitude, having reliable, on-demand power is crucial. Renewable energy sources like wind and solar can be intermittent, so dependable backup power—often supplied by natural gas or similar technologies—is necessary to maintain continuous operations.

Duane Swartz, who owns Broadview’s sole bar and restaurant, expressed cautious optimism. He stated that if the company responsibly manages land use, water resources, and power consumption, the development could boost employment and increase visitor traffic—benefiting his business and the local economy.
Conversely, concerns have been raised about environmental impacts and potential costs tied to infrastructure improvements required by the data center. Rancher Kassi Solberg voiced apprehension over a potentially expensive transmission line that could burden local ratepayers. Roger Swartz, mayor of Broadview, noted that since the proposed data center lies outside city boundaries, the town council currently holds no regulatory authority over it.
